FRIENDS OF THE POOR® WALK

FAQs

Is it correct that we cannot deposit pledges in the form of cash or check that we collect? but must instead turn the money in to the diocesan council?

The Walker decides who they have selected to be the beneficiary of the walk, either a conference or a council. The money associated with that individual registration goes to that individual organization. If they select the conference(s), then the checks and cash for that/those conferences goes directly to that/those conferences not the council...same as if they selected the council, the council gets the money.

As pledges are made to us online do we get notified?

All pledges made online supporting individual conferences or councils is automatically available for you to read a report for your conference or council by going to the walk administration page and clIcking the Wallker Report button at the top of the page. You are able, once there, to sort the list based on your individual conference or council.

When do we receive the funds back to the conference that have been collected online and or turned in by our conference?.

Immediately, likely a few weeks, after the walk is concluded.

Who is the beneficiary of the money raised?

All funds raised by walkers will be used in direct service to the poor. A walker elects his/her support of a Conference or Council and invites donors/sponsors to pledge.  100% of dollars raised are paid to the Conference or Council as elected by the walker.

Is there a walker registration fee?

No.

What is the exact process by which we order our Walk event T-Shirts?

Shirts may be purchased directly from the vendor, Trademark Creative, the cost of which is borne by the purchaser. Please contact Dave Brickler at dave@trademarkcreative.net.

SHIRT ORDER PROCEDURE

The Council or Conference (not walker) fills out shirt order form summarizing the order information for their shirts. The form is found on the Walk Administration Page.

Also, shirts are available for all walk staff and volunteer officials. These are bright blue with the SVDP and Friends of the Poor® Walk graphic and the words “Walk Official” across the back. Shirts may be purchased directly from the vendor, Trademark Creative, the cost of which is borne by the purchaser. Please contact Dave Brickler at dave@trademarkcreative.net.

How do we coordinate or cooperate with Conferences and Councils?

Walks can be organized and implemented individually by Conferences or Councils, and/ or can be coordinated by the Councils into a possibly larger and more lucrative event.  Regardless of where the walker actually walks, pledges will be credited to respective Conferences and Councils as designated by each walker. (For example, those who walk in Louisville on September 27, 2008, at the National SVdP meeting, will still collect pledges for the Conference/Council of his/her designation.)

Where can we purchase any additional premium items to support our The Friends of the Poor® Walk?

Any premium vendor is fine, however The National Council has selected two premium products to be made available for the first Friends of the Poor®  Walk – a water bottle and a nylon bag. These products are available through Trademark Creative at www.trademarkcreative.com. There is a SVdP webpage on this website for viewing of virtual samples, order and pricing information. Premium products are available for Conference or Council use or may be used in corporate sponsor promotion. Trademark Creative has a vast array of premium products. You will work them directly. A percentage of each product sold goes to the Friends of the Poor®  Fund. If you have any questions regarding premium products, please contact dbrickler@trademarkcreative.net.

How can I attract more pledges for my walk?

Walker registration (www.svdpfriendsofthepoorwalk.org) contains an email invitation system. You can easily send E-Vite to anyone and everyone. You can also use the brochures and the paper pledge system.

How can I increase the dollar amount of the pledges of my walk?

You can share that certain dollar amounts mean certain services to the poor. For example: $50.00 can pay for one day of food for a family of four; $75.00 can pay for a new bed set; $100 can pay for needed prescription medicines for a month; and encourage pledgors to consider the positive, immediate and certain impact to the poor of a higher pledge.

How do I ensure the correct conference mailing address information is correct to receive the pledge money?

Ask your Conference President to contact the District Council President. There is a national web-enabled database of Conference addresses, and the District Council President has access to it. In the event this is not successful, email it to cdesloge@svdpusa.org

Can I raise money from local sponsors to help underwrite local costs?

Yes. We have crafted example sponsorship levels to help streamline this process. You can also seek sponsorships for products or gifts.

How can we increase the chances of greater media attention?

The Friends of the Poor® Walk website www.svdpfriendsofthepoorwalk.org contains a full list of things to do to achieve the best success in penetrating and growing your local media attraction to your event. We have included Tips For Working With the Media.

How are walkers registered to participate in the walk?

Walkers can register on-line system or with the respective Conference/Council to walk using the paper registration form.

What is the benefit of using the new On-Line?

Pledges are secured by using SVDP’s new online pledge system** at www.svdpfriendsofthepoorwalk.org.  By using the online system, pledgers/sponsors and walkers are literally connected, to:

          Secure, collect, and distribute pledges

            Provide encouragement

          Leave messages

          Track pledges

          Provide an emergency communication system

Pledgers names and information are kept private to the respective Conference/Council beneficiary and walker.

How are pledges requested and made?

Walkers solicit potential pledgers to agree to donate money for completing the Walk.  Pledges are collected immediately at the time of pledging; either on line (credit card donations; see below) or manually, with paper receipt, by the walker.

Can we buy or use local premiums to help support the walk?

Absolutely The National Council has selected two premium products to be made available for the first Friends of the Poor®  Walk – a water bottle and a nylon bag. These products are available through Trademark Creative at www.trademarkcreative.com. There is a SVdP webpage on this website for viewing of virtual samples, order and pricing information. Who is responsible for the local administration of our local walk?

To assist in organizing your team, several walk job descriptions have been developed including Walk Chair, registration coordinator, media coordinator, volunteer coordinator and sponsorship coordinator to help outline and share the effort among your talented group.

Can we coordinate another event with the Walk?

Sure. For example, you can include a Health Fair before or after the event; or coordinate some service to the community. The ideas are endless.

Must everyone registered walk?

Not necessarily. For example, you can promote a sleep-in for those who can not make the walk but still wish to participate in raising funds for your local poor.

How can we promote the walk in our parish?

We have several good suggestions in our marketing packet including parish bulletins, pastor announcements, PSR take-homes, brochures and information tables.

What if we have folks who can not walk, but want to participate?

Your event can be organized to accommodate wheel-chairs or alternative courses to accommodate prosthetics or walking aids. You can promote a sleep-in for those who can not make the walk.

How can we share our pictures and videos with a common SVDP community?

Please add all your pictures and videos by emailing them to cdesloge@svdpusa.org. These will be added to The Friends of the Poor® Walk website.

What if I have a question that is not covered in the material on The Friends of the Poor® Walk website.

Email the question to cdesloge@svdpusa.org
