Deacon Jones is well versed in the passionate needs of the poor and in his evangelical missions to entire parishes gathers large numbers of faithful for spiritual growth and development and service to the poor.
Deacon Jones was ordained a Permanent Deacon in the Archdiocese of Detroit on October 1, 2005. He received his Masters in Pastoral Studies from Sacred Heart Major Seminary on April 28, 2007, and on May 31, 2007 he retired from the position of evangelization coordinator for the Archdiocese of Detroit. As deacon, Deacon. Jones currently serves the three parishes of St. Suzanne/OLGH, St. Mary of
From April 1975 to December 2000 DEACON. Jones was the senior minister of two churches in the city of
In March of 1998, while reading the apostolic fathers and subsequent church history in preparation for a Wednesday evening bible study, he discovered the Church to be charismatic/liturgical, hierarchical, and Eucharistic-centered. In light of that discovery, he and his wife Donna began a two year journey into the Catholic Church that culminated in fifty-four members of his previous congregation, including fourteen members of his family, entering the Catholic Church. They entered R.C.I.A. at St. Suzanne Catholic Community on September 10, 2000, and were welcomed into the Catholic Church through confirmation during Easter Vigil on April 14, 2001.
This is a golden opportunity also for Deacon Jones to have direct involvement in the improvement of thousands of peoples’ lives as the money raised by the Friends of the Poor® Walk stays directly in the hands of the local SVDP Conferences and Councils for direct and immediate aid to the poor.
This also will bring together Deacon Jones as a great personal and passionate apostle for the poor with The Society of St. Vincent de Paul, the largest lay charity organization in the world. SVDP currently operates in 142 countries, with a membership of more than 650,000. Founded in
In 2006, the U.S. Society, from its parish-based operations, served more than 15 million people nationally, providing—among many other and various SVdP services—direct financial aid to the poor in an amount greater than $297,000,000; and in-kind value of SVDP services and goods in an amount greater than $470,000,000.
Matthew 13 tells the parable of the mustard seed: “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his field. Though it is the smallest of all your seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and perch in its branches.” Using the parable of the mustard seed as an example, this nation-wide, single-day event on September 27, 2008 will bring not just a mustard seed to bloom for the poor, but mustard seeds of compassionate walk organizers and walkers spread like a seed spreader across
